health culture has been watching in awe as Jeremy O’Brien has shed a whopping 45kg. Jeremy is a quiet, unassuming guy but has literally shown determination and dedication to transform his body, to become fit and strong. Jeremy was kind enough to agree to answer our questions about what he did to get healthy, fit and become a leader on the 30 minute challenge board! We hope you are as inspired by Jeremy as we are.
HC: I first joined the gym because:
I’ve been overweight my whole life and it got the stage where I was disgusted with how big I was and they way I looked. I joined to improve my physical health and to help feel better about myself and to try and get a bit of self confidence along the way.
HC: Since coming to Health Culture I have learnt:
I’ve learnt that getting the results that you want and strive for don’t come easy, but if you put in the work and achieve even small goals the feeling is amazing. And continuing to improve and get better results in weights loss, fitness and strength actually made me enjoy coming to the gym.
HC: What does your usual workout week consist of?:
Well it used to consist of just cardio in the beginning, doing my original program, which consisted of doing a certain distance on each machine and every time I did it I would try and get those distances quicker than before, on a nearly daily basis. Then I started to do the 30 minute challenge regularly to continue on building and maintaining my fitness. As of late I have been doing mostly weights training with a cardio session in the middle of the week.
HC: What’s one accomplishment you’re proud of since joining the gym? Why?
My biggest accomplishment since joining the gym would defiantly be losing 45kgs. Granted I am a couple kilograms heavier on the scales now but I would like to think that it would be a gain of muscle (hopefully). Also, another one for me would be having my name on the 30 minute challenge board. When I first started I never thought I would be fit enough to even do it, let alone actually be up on the board with the best score for my age group.
HC: From your experience, what do you think are the most important attributes to reaching exercise and weight based goals?
For me the most important attributes would be determination and commitment. Having the attitude of saying “stuff it, I’m tired, I’ll go tomorrow” won’t get you anywhere. Pushing yourself to do it is the only way to get where you want to be. Just like on the motivational poster up in the gym which I like “The difference between who you are and who you want to be is what you do. And what you do to get where you want to be may not be pretty or may not come easy…”
Again, a huge thank you to Jez for being so honest in answering our questions.
