The ‘B’ Word

We all struggle with balancing out life, work, school and exercise from time to time. For most of us there are a million things going on during our day and it’s hard to make the most out of our time without feeling like we must sacrifice something.
Here are some tips on how to ‘balance’ out your time and hopefully work out what’s important to you and how you can achieve it.
Life is far too precious to not give it the best crack we can!
TIP 1: GET YOUR PRIORITIES STRAIGHT
Sorting out what your priorities are can help you have a clearer path.
– How important is training to you?
– How much time can you allocate each week?
– How much training do you need to do to get to your goal?…
– Can you do any incidental exercise via work or being with your kids?
– Are there other things that take up your time that you can cut back on?
Have a think about some of these questions and be honest with yourself. What may or may not work for your situation?

TIP 2: BE CONSISTANT
Fitting your exercise and training into your day routine will help you to stick to it. Make sure you set yourself realistic goals especially if time is tight.
Make yourself a training schedule and stick to it!
Put it up on your fridge for your partner or your family to see. This will help you be more accountable.
Make sure you leave room for when ‘life’ does get in the way and don’t beat yourself up if you truly could not fit it in.
TIP 3: KEEP THE PEACE AT HOME
It can be hard if one of you is more into exercise than the other. Make sure you have an open conversation with your partner and family.
Explain to them what you would like to achieve and what times you may be unavailable to them.
See if as a family, you can create a schedule that works for everyone. Your kids or partner might surprise you and want to join in with you
TIP 4: BE CREATIVE WITH YOUR TIME
– Are you actually able to ride your bike to work or run?
– Do you have stairs at work that you could use during your lunch break?
– Can you and your kids walk to school?
– Can you hold the plank position during the TV ads?…
Think about how a typical day pans out for you and where you might be able to include some exercise.
We don’t always have to get the gym and sometimes its just not possible

TIP 5: SET A GOAL
When we have something we are working towards, whether it be a work deadline or an event, we tend to have more drive and focus to achieve it.
You can start with a small goal like to complete 10 pushups on your toes. To bigger ones like running a half marathon.
You could get the whole family involved and think of a goal that you could all achieve together
TIP 6: QUALITY, NOT QUANTITY
Make sure you get the most out of your training sessions. Simply doing the same thing may not get you to your goal. Plus, a bit of variety will help you from getting bored
Consider whether you need a new program, or are there specific things you should be doing
If you time is short one week, try a HIIT Class
Sometimes a 20 minute workout can give you more than an hour one.
Life is about balance.
We do the best we can with the time we have – it goes too quickly to not make the most of it
Can you find a way to balance it all out now?
